SATARA, Nov 30: Chief Minister Manohar Joshi has convened a meeting of senior government officials on December 7 in connection with property tax hike which has met with strong protests in western Maharashtra, Minister of State for Urban Development Ravindra Mane said at Wai.

The revision of property tax was not confined to Satara, Sangli or Kolhapur district, Mane said making a point that the cess had remained unrevised in the entire State for many years. The State would re-consider its decision in the interest of the tax-payers, he said.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Abhaysinhraje Bhosale has advised all municipal council presidents in the district to meet Joshi in order to solve the problem raised by a hike in the consolidated property tax (CPT). CPT has created problems for the municipalities and village panchayats in the district. The citizens were not willing to pay the tax at increased rates since the hike was being branded as exorbitant and unbearable.

Bhosale suggested that the council office-bearers in Satara, Mahabaleshwar, Rahimatpur, Mhaswad, Wai, Karad and Phaltan should come together on the issue.
