May 6: Kanta Maru’s body lay unattended for over six hours while the medical and surgical units at J J Hospital were busy passing the buck over releasing it.

Contrary to media reports, Kanta’s body did not lay in the hospital ward for 16 hours. Reports said Maru’s body was removed only after other patients objected to its presence in the ward . Hospital records showed that Kanta Maru, 47 was admitted on April 5 and died at 7.30 pm on May 3. Her death occurred in ward 42. After consulting a senior hospital administrator the body was finally sent for PM at 1.30 am on May 4. There was confusion over who should take responsibility of further process and the body was shuttled back to ward 6.

Acting dean Dr Sushma Khanna , admitting that six hours was still a considerable delay in removing the body, said a detailed report on the case will be submitted to the State Government soon and suitable action will be taken .
