
NEW DELHI, November 22: Jindal Steel and Power emerged winners of the ABN Amro Bank Bhopal-Pataudi Cup beating 61 Cavalry A’ 7-6 in the final at Jaipur polo ground here today.
It was an exciting and closely-contested encounter with both teams combining well and displaying their superb stick work.
The last chukker proved vital to the result of the final. While it proved disastrous for 61 Cavalry A’, each member of the Jindal Steel and Power team scored a goal each in the chukker to put them on the winning track.
Tarun Sirohi gave 61 Cavalry A’ the lead in the first chukker. Naveen Jindal converted a spot hit penalty to equalise the score in the next chukker. Pinka Virk increased the lead for the Cavalry team by converting a 40-yard penalty to make it 2-1 in his team’s favour. Pinka Virk scored two more goals and Ajay Ahlawat one for the Cavalry team while Lokendra Singh and Samir Suhag found the target once each for Jindal Steel and Power to reduce the margin to 3-5.
The last chukker proved the turning point of the match. tarun Sirohi was the only player to score a goal while Jindal Steel scored four goals to emerge winners. This was the last tournament of the year in the Capital.
Prizes were given away by Begum Masur Ali Khan. Eskimo of Lokendra Singh was adjudged the best pony of the tournament.
61 Cavalry/Artillery became winners of Baria Cup (4 goals) beating fancied OTA team 9-5 1/2 today.
