Jhuggis razed by PUDA in Sector 70

S.A.S. NAGAR, Aug 12: Notwithstanding the large-scale protest rallies being organised by the jhuggi-dwellers whose houses were demolished recently, PUDA got into the act once again today and razed about 60 jhuggis in Sector 70 here.

These were inhabited by nearly 200 people who claimed to have been residing here for many years.

The residents alleged that the PUDA authorities didn’t give them any time even to take away their belongings. However, officials maintained that all these jhuggis were illegal.

The enforcement wing of PUDA was assisted by a large posse of police. A bulldozer was also pressed into service.
