
NEW DELHI, JULY 8: Vikas Yadav, a co-accused in the Jessica Lal murder case, is reported to be absconding today following the cancellation of his bail by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday.
Earlier today, his lawyer, Vineet Malhotra, moved a petition in the court of the Chief Justice, High Court, asking for a stay on yesterday8217;s order. The Chief Justice did not entertain the petition and referred it to Justice Madan B Lokur. Justice Lokur, who had cancelled the bail application yesterday, rejected the petition.
Deputy Commissioner of Police South District Sudhir Yadav said: 8220;We have not been able to trace Vikas Yadav so far.8221; He said that Vikas8217; father D P Yadav, a Rajya Sabha MP, attributed his son8217;s absence to a business trip.
According to the police, teams have been sent to various suspected hideouts8217; of Vikas in the Capital as well as in Uttar Pradesh.
Vikas Yadav is a close friend of the main accused in the case, Manu Sharma, who is the son of former Congress leader Venod Sharma. Vikas had eluded arrest for about a month after Jessica Lal was shot dead at socialite Bina Ramani8217;s bar at Tamarind Court in Mehrauli on April 30.
Vikas surrendered before a city magistrate on May 29 after obtaining an anticipatory bail from a Manipur court. The Delhi High Court while cancelling the bail had directed the police to take him into custody immediately. However, it had rejected police plea for police custody8217;. He has been charged with helping Manu flee Delhi after the crime and with destruction of evidence.
