If being held by minnows HAL was not enough for Mohun Bagan, a 2-0 defeat at the hands of JCT FC in their second NFL match here today was a rude awakening for the title contenders.

The hero for JCT, was striker Sunil Chhetri, whose twin strike in the first half virtually shut the doors on the Kolkata power house. With their first win at the 11th NFL, JCT now jump to fifth spot in the points’ tally.

A depleted Mohun Bagan, without their four regulars Edurdo Coclho, Tomba Singh, Mehrajudin Vadao and Ayon Chaudhry, were completely off-colour today.

India international Sunil Chettri put them in lead with a neat header of a Renedy Singh corner kick in the 8th minute.

This time there was no repeat of the mistake, that costed JCT dearly against Mohammedan Sporting in their first match at Delhi. The Phagwara-based side maintained posession and kept constant vigil on Bagan strikers specially Baichung Bhutia.

JCT’s Indian team stars Renedy Singh and Sunil Chhetri, on the other hand, continued to combine beautifully on the right flank and consolidated their team’s lead in the 40th minute, when Chhetri scored his second goal again of a header of a Renedy cross.

Sanjeeb Maria fetched himself a red card, after a reckless tackle on Chidi Edeh in the 62nd minute.
