CHENNAI, OCT 8: The AIADMK today described Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation and her rejoining the Union cabinet as a “drama enacted by the BJP-led NDA Government to hoodwink the people”.

In a statement here, AIADMK general secretary Jayalalitha referred to Banerjee severely condemning the hike on petroleum products and sending in her resignation, and said “it is crystal clear now that all this was nothing but a well-orchestrated drama”.

It was deplorable, she said, that the Government which took just one day to hike the price of petroleum products should have to call a cabinet meeting even to say it would take a second look at it.

“We are asked to believe that Prime Minister Vajpayee has written a letter promising to re-examine the issue and that Mamata Banerjee, who received the letter, was satisfied and withdrew her resignation,” Jayalalitha said.

She criticised DMK ministers in the cabinet for being “accomplices in the action” instead of opposing the hike.

The AIADMK would hold demonstrations in front of Central Government offices in all district headquarters in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry on October 13 to condemn the price hike and to demand its immediate rollback, she said.
