
In an apparent violation of the Election Commission’s Code of Conduct, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has deputed a retiring principal to head the degree college in Ganderbal.
By Farooq’s order (264 HE) dated 1-8-2002, G.N. Ali, due to retire in April 2003, has been deputed as principal of the Ganderbal Degree College for two years. Ali will also be part of the polling staff for the Ganderbal Assembly segment.
The J-K Higher Education Department brazenly violated the Model Code of Conduct set by the Election Commission of India regarding appointments and transfers of principals of government colleges after the poll notification on August 1.
The department vide (order no 267 HE dated 09/08/2002) accorded promotion to Asha Sharma, posted in Jammu to the post of Principal, Government Degree College for Women, Pulwama in the pay scale of Rs 18,400-22,400.
The order said as per the recommendations of Public Services Commission and Departmental Promotion Committee, Sharma has been posted against the vacancy created by the transfer of G.N. Ali. Sources claimed that another selection list has been sent to the Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department by Chairman, Public Service Commission on August 23.
