IT cities under Centre’s vigil, says Union Minister

Respective state police were already keeping a vigil in important places following the alert sounded by the Centre.

Centre was keeping a close watch on cities with sizeable presence IT companies following ‘apprehensions’ that they could be ‘soft targets’ of terror strikes, Union Information Technology Minister A Raja said on Tuesday.

“Yes. There are some apprehensions. The Home Ministry has already taken stock of the situation and is keeping a close watch (on such cities),” he told reporters here replying to questions in this regard.

His Ministry was coordinating with the Home Ministry, Raja said.

Respective state police were already keeping a vigil in important places following the alert sounded by the Centre in the wake of the serial blasts in the country’s IT capital Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

Chennai police unearthed a plot to carry out explosions in the state, including the metropolis, another city with a cluster of IT and ITES firms, and arrested three militants in this connection.

Indian Mujahideen, which claimed responsibility for Saturday’s serial blasts in Ahmedabad, has warned of attacks in another IT hub Hyderabad which has already witnessed blasts at Mecca Masjid, popular eatery Gokul Chat and entertainment park Lumbini Park.
