A Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up at a bus stop in the Arab-Israeli village of Umm al-Fahm in northern Israel on Wednesday, wounding several people, witnesses and police said.

It was the first suicide bombing in more than a month. Israel Radio reported that one person was killed in addition to the bomber. Ambulance crews said the bomber was killed and two people were wounded.

‘‘A suicide bomber blew himself up. There are casualties. At the moment the number is not known, nor the seriousness of their wounds,’’ Dov Lutsky, a Galilee police commander, told Army Radio.

The station said the bomber was waiting to board a bus but apparently detonated his explosives prematurely when he saw police approaching him.
