Industry will boycott Film City for hooliganism

March 1: The film and television industry today decided to boycott Film City at Goregaon to protest alleged hooliganism8217; by Bharatiya Kamgar Sena BKS activists. On February 26, about 250 workers, members of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees FWICE, were at work on a set for Dreams Unlimited Films. Alleged BKS activists arrived on the sets and demanded that members of the Bombay Kamgar Sena8217; be employed on the set, which FWICE members refused to. Around 30-40 BKS activists then allegedly started breaking the set and beating workers and production staff.

The workers retaliated, and police later held both BKS activists and FWICE workers. But the alleged culprits were let off on bail, while FWICE workers are still in police custody. Pappu Verma, FWICE president, Pahlaj Nihalani, Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers president, Shakti Samanta, Indian Motion Pictures Producers8217; Association president and Surinder Kapoor,FMC chairperson have said the industry will stop allproduction and shooting work if government doesn8217;t stop such incidents.
