KUALA LUMPUR, August 11: It was a poor second round for eight Indians in fray as rain truncated the day’s play in the $250,000 Volvo Masters golf here on Friday.

Chandigarh’s Amandeep Johl, who had a superb first round of three under 69, was totally off colour and had a dismal eight over par-80 round and slumpped to 38th place with 5 over 149. Delhi’s Amit Dube carded his second successive three over par-75 round and was at 40th place with six over 150.

Chandigarh’s Kanwar Sekhon hit two over par-74 and with a total of 7 over 151 (77,74) was at joint 47th place along with Calcutta ‘s Uttam Mundy. Mundy also had a bad day, he hit six over par-78 to aggregate 7 over 151 (73,78).

Chandigarh’s Amritinder Singh was in poor form, he shot five over 77 and was at 54th position with 9 over 153 (76,77).

The eighth Indian, Calcutta’s Feroz Ali who had three over par-75 first round retired from the competition.

Jyoti Randhawa was seven under par after playing six holes in the second round while Thailand’s Thammannon Sriroj is six under 138.

Korea’s Anthony Kang enjoyed a birdie binge as he thretened to drive away with the title after grabbing a six shot lead. Kang returned to the course early this morning to resume his abandoned first round at the 7th green, which he birdied and closed out with a dazzling eight under par 64.

After a 45 minute break, the 27th year old Korean gave another masterly display and reeled in eight birdies against a bogey for his second round 65 and a two day total of 15 under par-129.

American Andre Pitts, already a two-time runner-up this season, could find himself in the bridesmaid’s role again if the leader keeps his foot firmly on the gas. Pitts, who also had a finish his first round this morning, signed scores of 68-67 for a nine-under 135 aggregate.

Kang and Pitts were among the 68 players who managed to complete their second rounds. Lightning forced play to be suspended at 5.30 p.m. where 69 players will come back on Sturday morning to finish their second rounds.
