The abducted Indian national — working with the Italian company Saipem at Port Harcourt in the River province of Nigeria — has reportedly been freed by his captors. Identified as Mammen, he was captured along with two others, including an Italian national, late yesterday.

According to sources, the Italian firm immediately swung into action after the news of abduction got around. They said there could have been exchange of money with a local gang of abductors.

However, the MEA spokesperson said ‘‘it has not got any official confirmation’’ about the reported release of Mammen.
