CHENNAI: Joshna Chinappa, the 13-year-old schoolgirl from Chennai, won the under-15 title in the Scottish Open squash championship at Edinburgh on Wednesday, according to reports reaching here. Joshna beat Emma Barnett of England 9-2, 9-4, 5-9, 9-5 in the semi-finals and Kristy McFee, also of England, 9-8, 9-5, 5-9, 10-8, in the final.

Manisha exits
CHANDIGARH: Unseeded Europeans Urska Vesenjak and Antonia Matic set up a summit clash — outsmarting Indian opponents Rushmi Chakravarthi and Manisha Malhotra — in the semi-finals of the $ 10,000 ITF Women’s Circuit tennis tournament.

Second seed Malhotra lost to Croatia’s Matic 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (5-7) 2-6 while Rushmi surrendered to Slovenian Urska 6-0 6-0.

Panja tops
CHENNAI: Saurav Panja won the IndianOil Servo Millenium Tennis Tournament beating top seed Nitin Kirtane 7-5, 6-2 at the KTC Courts.

His victory ensured him a berth in the qualifying round of Gold Flake Open 2000. Leander Paes took the exhibition match with National champion Sunil Kumar as a practice match, winning 6-4, 6-2.

CHENNAI: Central Zone, thanks to Anshil Kapoor (87: 8×4) and Vineet Saxena (60: 4×4, 2×6), scored a 47-run win over West Zone in the Under-19 inter-zonal C K Nayudu cricket tournament.
Brief scores: East Zone 210-7 in 50 overs (G Manish Kumar 67, Subhamoi Das 59, R R Das 41) lost to North Zone 214-3 in 43.4 overs (B Sharma 77, Gautham Thambir 59).
