Cloth left in woman’s abdomen during delivery at Greater Noida hospital, Gautam Buddha Nagar CMO among 6 booked
Alleging that Goyal, husband of Agarwal, was part of the team that operated upon her at Kailash Hospital, Verma claimed that attempts were made to suppress the matter and she and her husband were threatened.

Gautam Buddha Nagar Chief Medical Officer (CMO) was among six doctors booked on December 24 after a woman alleged that a half-metre-long surgical cloth had been left inside her abdomen during a delivery procedure conducted at private-run Bakson Multispeciality Hospital in Greater Noida in 2023.
On the directions of a district court, the Knowledge Park police station registered an FIR against Kumar, doctors Anjana Agarwal and Manish Goyal, Bakson Multispeciality Hospital owner, as well as Health department officials Chandan Soni and Asha Kiran Chaudhary.
In an application filed before the Gautam Buddha Nagar Chief Judicial Magistrate, Anshul Verma, a resident of Delta 1 in Greater Noida has said that she underwent a caesarean delivery at Bakson hospital in Tuglakpur on November 14, 2023. The operation was performed by Agarwal and she was discharged two days later.
According to the application, Verma began experiencing abdominal pain and swelling soon after.
Over the next several months, she sought treatment at multiple hospitals in Muzaffarnagar and Greater Noida. Despite undergoing several diagnostic tests, including ultrasounds and MRI scans, the cause of her condition allegedly remained undetected.
On April 22, this year, Verma underwent surgery for an abdominal lump at Kailash Hospital, Greater Noida.
During the surgery, doctors reportedly removed a half-metre-long cloth from her abdomen, which the complainant alleged was the same cloth left inside during the 2023 operation. She claimed to possess photographs and videos of the cloth as evidence.

Alleging that Goyal, husband of Agarwal, was part of the team that operated upon her at Kailash Hospital, Verma claimed that attempts were made to suppress the matter and she and her husband were threatened.
Following the surgery, Verma’s husband submitted a written complaint to the Gautam Buddha Nagar CMO, following which an internal inquiry was ordered and two Health department officials —Soni and Chaudhary —were appointed as investigating officers, the FIR said.
However, Verma told the court that the inquiry was delayed and that the cloth was not sent for forensic examination. She added that she required eight units of blood during the second surgery and that her health has been severely affected.
After allegedly receiving no response to a complaint she sent to the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissionerate this August, Verma said she was left with no option but to approach the court.

Denying allegations of delay, Station House Officer Sarvesh Chandra told PTI that the cloth was not provided to the investigating officers in time.
When contacted, Bakson hospital Superintendent Vishal Singh Chauhan said Agarwal and Goyal were never officially on the payrolls of the hospital. “Anjana was only a visiting consultant… In November 2023, she had reached out with a request to use the hospital’s facility for one of her patients. The patient was admitted and later discharged. We never heard of her in the last one-and-a-half years,” Chauhan said.
Meanwhile, Soni, the Additional CMO of Noida District Hospital, said an inquiry was conducted into the matter and a report was prepared. “We had to consult two hospitals and therefore, it took us time to prepare the report. We have no idea why the FIR was registered against us,” he added.
Chief Medical Officer Narendra Kumar, meanwhile, told PTI that action would be taken in accordance with court directions.
