India today reacted sharply to suggestions made on resolving the Kashmir conflict at the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) foreign ministers’ meeting in Yemen recently, saying that the OIC has no ‘‘locus standi’’ on issues relating to India’s internal affairs.
The OIC contact group on Jammu and Kashmir had called for a settlement of the Kashmir issue in accordance with ‘‘aspirations’’ of the Kashmiri people.
‘‘The Organisation of Islamic Conference has once again commented upon J-K at the OIC foreign ministers’ meeting in Sana’a, Yemen. The OIC has no locus standi in matters concerning India’s internal affairs. We reject all such resolutions,’’ the MEA Spokesperson said in a tersely-worded statement here.
The OIC had also accused India of not implementing the UN resolutions on Kashmir and extended its continued support to Kashmiris, in what they felt was a ‘‘just struggle for right to self-determination’’.
New Delhi views the OIC as a forum frequently used by Pakistan to muster support for its anti-India propaganda on Kashmir and has often rejected its resolutions on the subject.
India denies Pak charge that troops crossed LoC
ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI: Pakistan on Monday lodged a strong protest with India, alleging unprovoked firing by its troops and abduction of a civilian from a village near the LoC. New Delhi denied the charge, saying it was only carrying out operations to stop infiltration.
A statement by the Pakistani foreign office said the Director-General of Military Operations raised the issue with his Indian counterpart and lodged a strong protest in this regard. He demanded an inquiry into the ‘‘violation’’ and immediate safe return of the civilian allegedly abducted from Kundi village in PoK.
Denying Pakistan’s allegations, India said its soldiers had not crossed the LoC and said it was engaged in operations to push back militants. ‘‘Several people have been apprehended…However, the Indian troops have not crossed the LoC at any point,’’ sources said.
