BANGALORE: Calcutta’s Suparna-Sumona comprising Sudhir Ganguly, G Sinha, Vibhas Todi, S Lahiri, S Das and A N Banerjee annexed the Dhampur Sugar Trophy having won the progressive team event in the 39th National Bridge Championships with a tally of 479 points at Kanteerava Indoor Stadium.ITC emerged runners-up tallying 464.73 points.

Play washed out

CHENNAI: The fourth day’s play of the Duleep Trophy final was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Saturday.

The umpires conducted three inspections and finally called off play at 2.40 p.m. Overnight heavy rain had rendered the outfield slushy.

GUWAHATI: A seven-day Senior National Grass-court Tennis Championship would begin at Duliajan in upper Assam from December 22 with over 70 top-ranking players participating in the Rs 4.75 lakh tournament.

Megha triumphs

New Delhi: Megha Vakharia won the girls under-14 ITF Junior Southern Asian tennis tournament for the second time in succession at the Raj Shahi Tennis Complex, Bangladesh. She defeated Aiguf in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Pune marathon

PUNE: Services, minus Abhay Singh, will spearhead the Indian challenge in in the 14th Pune International Marathon which takes place tomorrow. The run, to be flagged off from the Sambaji Bridge by PM I K Gujral, has already attracted 25 foreign entries. Italian Loren Mauricio, who looked the best foreign bet with 2:14.19, has pulled out, leaving the field open for Hungarian Echchadli My Tahar who has a personal best of 2:16.22.

Digvijay champ

CALCUTTA: Digvijay Singh won the Goodricke East India amateur golf championship with a total score of 150 at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club course here today.

Singh returned a card of 75 on both the days to win the championship, piping Aman Bahl on the 37th hole.
