
Weightlifters win bagful of medals
NEW DELHI: Sanamacha Chanu bagged three medals including two silver and a bronze as the country claimed eight medals 8212; 2 silvers and 6 bronze 8212; in the Asian Weightlifting Championship at Wu Han in China. In the senior women8217;s 48 kg event, Chanu claimed two silver and a bronze with a total lift of 172.5 kg. She lifted 97.5 kg in jerk to win a silver and 75 kg in snatch claim a bronze.
Sandhya won three bronze in the 48 kg junior category. She had a total of 150 kg, lifting 65 kgs in snatch and 85 kg in jerk. In the men8217;s category T Mithu clinched two bronze in the 56 kg event.He lifted 112.5 kgs for snatch and 140 for jerk to total 240 kg.
Agarkar, Azhar out
MUMBAI: Mohammed Azharuddin and all-rounder Ajit Agarkar, who are still not fit, have been ruled out of the three-match one-day series against the West Indies at Toronto on September 11, 12 and 14.
Azhar and Agarkar would not be considered as both have asked for more time to produce the fitnesscertificate, according to BCCI chief Rajsingh Dungarpur. Meanwhile Nayan Mongia has recovered from his finger injury and is likely to to make a comeback into the side.

NEW DELHI: The 11th Inter-Zonal Junior National Athletic championship will be held at the Gurugobind Singh Sports College inLucknow from September 1 to 3. The championship will form the basis for selecting the squad for the Asian junior meet to be held at Singapore from September 28 to October 3.
