
Anand to sue DD
MUMBAI: The agents of world number chess player Vishwanathan Anand may sue Doordarshan for using the player8217;s photograph for promoting its sport channel without using his permission. Doordarshan, ever since it launched an exclusive sports channel, has been using wellknown players8217; names to popularise it allegedly without their consent. According to his agents, Anand has strongly objected to his face and name appearing in an advertisement which said 8220;My country, my game, my channel8221;. He has sent a letter to Doordarshan authorities demanding a clarification in media that he had no endorsement deals with it and withdraw the earlier promotional advertisement. His agents said such campaigns may harm their client8217;s arrangements with other television channels.
Deshmukh an IM
NAGPUR: Anup Deshmukh has become the first Vidarbha player to earn the International Master title after his successful run in the Commonwealth Chess tournament which concluded in Bikaner onMonday.
Deshmukh needed six points out of possible 10 to acquire the coveted title before the start of the Bikaner meet, which he achieved. On his way to the IM title, he beat the winner of the tournament Atanu Lahiri. At present, he has 2430 Elo points.
Railways win
PATHANAMTHITTA: Holders Southern Railway women and Cochin Port Trust men registered first victories over Vypeen Volleyball Academy and ITI, Bangalore, respectively in the 21st Federation Cup volleyball championship at the Blessen George Stadium.
Railways won 25-27, 25-19, 25-19, 21-25 and 15-10 while CPT triumphed 25-15, 25-20, 25-21.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: East, West, North and South Zonal Railways shared penultimate days four golds in the 37th All-India Railways Cycling championship at the Lncpe Velo Drome.
Eastern Railway claimed their fourth gold in the championship. In 4000m team pursuit, Eastern Railway won with a timing of 5:17.50.
In 4000m individual, Shiv Ram Choudhary of Western Railwaybagged the gold clocking 5:34.73. In 1000m sprint, A R Saji Kumar came first in 12.46 second.
Inderjit Singh of Northern Railway snatched 30 km point race title returning with six points and one lap.
