Tele-serial on Indian hockey
MUMBAI: Former hockey star Joaquim Carvalho and the present Indian team coach for goalkeepers Mir Ranjan Negi would produce an exclusive television series on Indian hockey. Carvalho said the series will present the glorious past of Indian hockey, legendary players of yesteryears and the current crop of promising players. The series will be hosted by film actor Tom Alter. Carvalho would be the chief technical advisor.

NAGPUR: The 28th Senior National and Inter-state carrom championship begins here tomorrow at YMCA8217;s Robertson Hall. The tournament will be conducted in seven events 8212; men and women team championship, men singles/doubles, women singles/doubles and veterans8217; singles event. In all 36 teams 25 states and 11 units have confirmed their entry including defending champions Bank8217;s Sports Board, represented by Nageen Etambe, Mahendra Tambe, Jagan Bengle, Alokya Raj, Raju Katare and Sanjay Nagaokar.

HOSHIARPUR: Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Uma Bharti today said twenty sports schools, with international level facilities, would be opened in the country to raise the standard of sports and prepare 5,000 sportspersons for the 2000 Olympic Games in Australia. She said Rs 2 crore had been granted by her ministry for the purpose and she would be approaching big business houses to adopt the schools for preparing national players.
