Bandh deferred till Games end

IMPHAL: Naga People’s Action Committee (NPAC) has called off the indefinite hill districts bandh from 1200 hours today following pressure from general public including social organisations and associations. NPAC, however, would resume the indefinite bandh after the National Games if the state government did not fulfill their demands, the spokesman said.

Asian Gymnastics

CHANDIGARH: The first Central South Asian Gymnastics Confederation championship will be held at Patiala from December 27 to 29 next, confederation secretary general PS Virk said today. Virk said teams from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan will participate in the event.

BANGALORE: Andhra Pradesh and Bihar entered the semifinals of the 14th all-India Telecom hockey tournament posting their second consecutive wins in as many days in their respective groups. At the Akkithimmanahalli Stadium on Tuesday, Bihar, powered by Premjit Kujur’s four-goal effort including a hat-trick, outplayed Rajasthan 5-0 to book their semifinal berth from the three-team Group B. Bihar had routed MTNL, Delhi 4-0 on the opening day. Thus, the lone remaining match — between MTNL and Rajasthan would be of no consequence to the pool standings. A Kujur also scored a goal in Bihar’s win — in the 27th minute to support Premjit’s effort, which came in the 5th, 13th, 25th and 48th minutes.

SAARC bridge

CALCUTTA: India’s Promod Ranjan Das and Sanat Kumar Saha won the pairs’ event of the second SAARC bridge tournament, which concluded at Dhaka today, according to information received from Bangladesh Bridge Federation here. While Das and Saha accumulated 195.96 points, Bangladesh’s Bahar-E-Alam and Harun-Ur-Rashid emerged second with 188.95 points. The third place in the event also went to India with the pair of Debasish Dutta and Sailesh Kantha, who gleaned 186.61 points.
