Mixed luck for Shandilya
MUMBAI: National champion Ashok Shandilya encountered mixed fortunes in Group H on the fourth day of the World Snooker Championship being played at Papua New Guinea on Friday.

According to information received here today, the Railway star beat Jyri Virtana of Finland 4-1 in the morning but lost his second match to local cueist Chris Schulz 1-4 in the evening.

With two wins from five matches, Shandilya8217;s chances of making it to the knock-out stage have dimmed. However, India number two Sarang Shroff is still in the reckoning to qualify from Group C as he got a walk-over in his last match.

Twelve-year hitch ends for Lyallpur

Mukesh wins title with record score
FARIDABAD: Mukesh Kumar of Mhow won the Rs 5-lakh Tiger Sports Marketing Open and broke the existing record to lowest four-round aggregate on the Wills Sport Golf Tour despite playing a level-par final round on Saturday.

At the Aravalli Golf Cob, Faridabad, Mukesh aggregated 20-under 268, the best total ever recorded since the formation of the PGA Indian Tour in 1995-96. That beat the second placed Feroz Ali by seven strokes. Feroz played a four-under 68 final round to finish at 13-under 275.

Marshall to be buried with cricket ball
BRIDGETOWN: Malcolm Marshall, one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history, will be buried later on Saturday carrying a new, red ball. His family said the ball would be placed in Marshall8217;s coffin as a symbol of his status as one of the greats of the game. Marshall, 40, died a week ago from cancer.

Several of his teammates from the team of 1980s will be in attendance. Among them will be Clive Lloyd and Viv Richards, two of the captains who led him in his 81 Tests, and Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Joel Garnerand Colin Croft, the fellow fast bowlers who comprised one of the most effective attacks the game has known.
