Morcha to protest nuns8217; rape
Ahmednagar: A morcha will be taken out by different organisations here on October 11 to protest against the rape of Catholic nuns in Madhya Pradesh, to demand implementation of the Srikrishna Commission report and action against those responsible for the attack on Dalit locality in Borgao.

Traders fined for octroi evasion
Ahmednagar: A cloth merchant attempting to evade octroi payment of Rs 5,000 has been fined Rs 54,000. Action was taken against Shyamsundar Parikh by Ahmednagar municipal council president Suresh Shelke.

Parikh8217;s vehicle carrying cloth was intercepted by Shelke, vice-president Balasaheb Borate and octroi committee chairman Kailas Girawale.

Another case has been registered against Punjab Watch Company for octroi evasion. He has been fined Rs 32,000.

A meeting of the municipal council held last Tuesday had turned stormy on the issue of evasion of octroi duties. The council president had assured that stern action will be taken against those who evade the tax.

AMC targets encroachers
Ahmednagar: Ahmednagar Municipal Council which has launched an intensive drive against encroachments in the city has now turned its attention to illegal constructions in the central parts of the city. The municipal council has issued an appeal to people to remove all encroachments and illegal constructions on the land owned by the council.

Many people have constructed houses or shops on any available sites on roads and drainage lines. Many kiosks have also come up at strategic locations. The council has warned that the expenses for removing encroachments will be recovered from the parties concerned.
