Tree plantation drive inaugurated
Mayor Gian Chand Gupta today inaugurated a tree plantation drive at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, here today, by planting a sapling in the school compound. PTA members, staff and students of the schools also participated in the function by planting at least 300 saplings. The function was also attended by Municipal Councillors Mohinder Singh and O. P. Goyal.
200 saplings planted
About 200 saplings of medicinal and ornamental plants were planted here during a week-long tree-plantation drive organised by Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36-D, under the guidance of World Wild Fund, India. Students and teachers of the school participated in the function.

Discussion on bilingual software
In the second phase of All India Conference of State Bank Hindi Officers on the occasion of golden jubilee celebrations of India’s independence, held at State Bank Staff Training Centre, Panchkula, a discussion was held on the contribution of bilingual software in implementing official language policy. Dr Presh of PU and Om Prakash Bhardwaj were the chief guests.

Second counselling for B.Com today
Eleven seats in B.Com first year are still vacant and the second counselling will take place tomorrow. According to R. C. Jeewan, principal of DAV College, Chandigarh, admissions to the vacant seats will take place tomorrow at the college mini auditorium at 9 am. Ten of these seats are vacant in GGS College for Women, Sector 26.

GSSS-47 wins skit competition
Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 47, won the first prize in the skit competition for its play “Kala Pani” organised by the Education Department, UT administration, to celebrate 50 years of Indian independence. The play is written by Baldev Singh, a teacher of the school.
Poetry recitation competition held
A poetry recitation competition was organised at the Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 38-West, to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of Indian independence. According to a press statement issued by the school, 45 students participated in the competition. In the juniors category, Sangeeta bagged the first prize while Rajni was second. Lalit stood third. In the senior category, Neelam won the first prize, followed by Dhir Singh and Santosh respectively.
210 administered Hepatitis B vaccine
A subsidised Hepatitis B vaccination camp was organised at St. Soldier Divine Public school by the Department of Social Service and Survey through its mobile team. Nearly 210 students were vaccinated.

Educationist dead
Rajinder Kaur (81), a noted educationist and widow of late S Diljang Singh Jauhar, a social worker and former member of the UT Local Advisory Council, died here today. She was associated with the Red Cross. She is survived by a son, photographer Tej Bans Singh Jauhar.

Tread mill test machine launched
The stress test machine, RMS Tread Mill Test was launched by Recorders and Medicare Systems at CII Exhibition Hall here today. The RMS TMT machine delivers better diagnostic results and has more features than any other system available in India, said a spokesman of Recorders and Medicare Systems.
