BANGALORE, JAN 6: Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) shrugged off their attacking inhibitions to score an upset 2-0 win over Calcutta giants Maneksia Tollygunge Agragami. in the National Football League (NFL) here on Thursday.
The man to inspire ITI was striker George Iekeh. Showing excellent pace, control, and dribbling skills, the Nigerian ran the Tollygunge defence ragged, and even in the first quarter, it seemed a matter of time before ITI would seal their victory.
ITI’s first came in the 15th minute. Iekeh moved up on the right, and the Tollygunge box became camping ground for ITI. RC Prakash jumped high and headed in towards the right post, even as ‘keeper Mukherjee stood rooted. In the second half, Naushad drew the keeper and defenders toward himself and unselfishly squared to Iekeh, who buried the ball in the net to put the issue beyond doubt.
Tomorrow: Mahindras vs JCT, FC Kochin vs Mohun Bagan, SBT vs Churchill.
