Quirky to the core. A complete Mad Hatter who8217;s high on the fun ratings and possesses a finely twisted soul in a good way which finds immense pleasure in playing characters that can leave you in a state of shock and disbelief. Often, on the floor, breathless, and rolling in laugh attacks.
No wonder his films come with a 8216;warning8217; from the health department! Just kiddin8217; but that8217;s the absolute nonsensical sense actor Adam Sandler makes. And despite all the farting, ogling, squeaking, fooling he pulls off in his films, the Hollywood actor shines on the billboard of comedy giants. Out with his new film, 8216;You Don8217;t Mess With The Zohan8217;, we, through an e-mail interview, got to know the man behind the actor, producer, writer and musician and the choices he8217;s made.
8220;Right from childhood, I was always drawn towards stand-up comedy and everyone thought I was a natural comic. After a short stint in television acting and script writing for 8216;Saturday Night Live8217;, I felt I enjoyed acting the most, and decided to focus on that,8221; he types picking comedy as his specialisation. 8220;Making people laugh is the most serious business.8221;
However, adds Adam, humour should be in accordance with the class targeted. If it8217;s for masses, it should cover all those aspects. If it8217;s classified, it should specifically portray those fun elements which are specific to the audience who don8217;t have any objection. So, is The Zohan classified? 8220;Well, the film was my idea and at no point I had ever thought that we would pick up a sensitive issue and deal with it in such a comic way. We worked on that because one minor mistake would have made the whole movie controversial, as the subject of the film deals with the tension, between Israel and Palestine.8221; Sandler plays Zohan Dvir, a highly skilled, indestructible counter terrorist who takes a break from the Army and moves to America to become a hairstylist. 8220;He seems like he enjoys his life. So The Zohan is one character, I really don8217;t mind being him in my real life,8221; clicks Sandler.
We can8217;t help but notice the underdog element in Sandler8217;s works, most of which appears to be inspired from some real life characters and stories. 8220;All of us, at some point in time has been, or has at least, felt like the underdog. The top dog may not always be liked by everyone, but everyone loves it when the underdog makes it big. He just connects with his audience all of us identify with him. The underdog gets into all these tricky situations and has all these funny moments which make up for the comedy in a movie8230;why would someone want to know the story of a guy who is the best in everything and has everything? It is always more interesting to know about the guy who has to face the odds to reach his goal.8221;
As for the real life experiences, Adam says most it is from stories he sees and hears. 8220;Like for Zohan, the idea got better with help from conversations with my hairdresser Yuki. There were so many more people who helped me make Zohan more authentic, like Ronit Ravich-Boss, the script writer from Israel, and she helped me with my accent. Mariah Carey had to be a part of this because during my last trip to Israel, way back in the 90s, I met this cab driver who told me that the men there are absolutely ga-ga over her. So you can see that there are so many small experiences woven in to make a single story!8221;
He is looking forward to 8216;Bedtime Stories8217; and 8216;Funny People8217;, is writing and composing, and also looking after his production house, Happy Madison. 8220;I guess each job is interesting and based on each other. I have enjoyed all from writing, composing music to acting and producing films. But would say that I can portray what I write or feel through my acting. So acting is my priority but yeah others are really unavoidable for me. After all it8217;s a God gift to be multitalented. Isn8217;t it? So sorry, I can8217;t be biased towards either gift of God,8221; he hits another one.
It would be a mistake if we say Sandler is all about being happy and funny for he8217;s done his share of serious stuff, like the character in 8216;Reign Over Me8217; and 8216;Spanglish8217;. For Sandler, comedy might look easy and many critics don8217;t consider it true works of art, but it8217;s a serious business, and not just money-wise. 8220;For it requires the same, sometimes even more dedication than action or drama. Timing is important and developing it is not an easy task. Frankly, I want to be master of all trades rather than just be the jack,8221; punches Adam adding that versatility is one of the finest qualities that an actor can possess.
8220;I could do comedy all my life and for such well thought concepts and issues are portrayed in a light manner, but yeah, in line with comedy, I would love do any role which is appealing and satisfying to me, be it romantic, serious or even negative. It helps me explore my abilities as an actor and set up better credentials. It is not that with my serious films I am trying to break the shackles of comedy type cast8230;acting is my forte and I want to do whatever I can.8221;
Proud of all his films, the actor8217;s pretty excited about entering the horror/thriller genre with 8216;Scary Madison8217;. As for Bollywood, he writes he8217;s heard of 8220;the awesome acting and film making talent in India8221;, and regrets he hasn8217;t watched any Indian film so far. 8220;I have heard that comedies and romances are a huge rage in India, and that most of your films are musical. I would definitely not mind working in an Indian film.8221; We are looking forward to that!
