Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq has rubbished suggestions that he would be a disruptive influence on the side if selected again and said he would not create any problem for the team provided he is “well looked after”.
“I know there is this fear that if I return to the side I will influence the captain and could cause problems,” Inzamam said.
“But the bottom line is that if players are well looked after they will never create problems for anyone. And why should I want to create problems for anyone. I want to see this team doing well like everyone else does,” he added.
Inzamam also felt that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) needs to support new captain Shoaib Malik and back him even in times when the team is not doing well.
“It is too early to say how he will fare. But I know one thing, a captain’s real test comes when the team is not doing well. That is when he has to keep the players together and not let their spirits down,” he said.
“It is not hard for a captain when the team is doing well. Then even the negative things are forgotten about and ignored,” he added.
