NEW DELHI, March 3: In Chandni Chowk, hundreds of votes were wasted as they were found to be either stamped between symbols of two party candidates or the ink of the stamp had blotted on the other side, making it difficult to figure out which candidate had got the vote.

In one ballot paper, the voter had stamped against the symbols of all the parties. In the first round, more than 100 ballots were found to be invalid as voters had apparently left similar thumb impressions against the Janata Dal (JD) symbol.

The discovery of such a large number of ballot papers with similar thumb impressions comes in the wake of the widespread allegations of rigging in the constituency. Shoaib Iqbal, the JD candidate, had surprisingly finished a close second.
