What does fitness mean to you?
Fitness, for me, is a healthy lifestyle. It does not mean gymming rigorously or going on major diets, but healthy living. By that I mean eating healthy, eating the right food at the right time, combined with a little bit of exercise, which may be 20 minutes of brisk walking or yoga.
For you, sports runs in the family. And you have always been an active sportsperson. How much has this influenced your approach to fitness?
I have been actively into sports since childhood. I have been a national level badminton player and I8217;ve also played baseball and basketball. Sports has helped me understand my body well and all its requirements. Given a choice, I8217;d much rather swim or play some other sport than go to the gym.
How much time do you spend in the gym?
I prefer walking and jogging over gymming. I love being out in the open on my own. But, in Mumbai, there isn8217;t much space for that. So, I end up going to the gym for an hour-and-a-half every day. I do a bit of cardio and weight-training there, though not too much.
You also appreciate the holistic way to fit-ness, yoga, etc8230;
I have always been interested in yoga. I have dabbled in power yoga, which combines yoga with weight-training. If I have no time to hit the gym, then I make sure that I do a bit of basic yoga, like surya namaskar and deep breathing. What I like about it is that it8217;s good for both your body and your mind. Yoga requires a lot of concentration and helps you focus on yourself.
There8217;s a myth that all models are forever dieting. Is it true of you?
I have never gone on a crash diet. I just believe in eating healthy and wholesome food. For example, if I8217;m having Indian food, I make sure it8217;s balanced with dal, salads and roti, so that I get my share of proteins and carbohydrates. I do have a sweet tooth, I crave chocolates, and I must confess that I give in. I may have a bite or two to satisfy my taste buds.
