MUMBAI, December 7: A woman committed suicide by setting herself on fire on Friday evening allegedly following dory demands by her mother-in-law at D N Nagar, Andheri (W).

Sumitra Temkar (34) doused herself with kerosene before setting fire at 5 pm and succumbed to burns while she was being rushed to the Cooper Hospital, according to police.

Sumitra had married one Chandrakant about 14 years ago. The couple had two children. Sumitra got into regular fights with her mother-in-law Indira K. Temkar (55) who had been threatening to get her son remarried unless the wife paid dowry. Recently Sumitra was forced to cook food out in the veranda after Indira did not allow it inside kitchen.
