Uma Bharati’s first darshan after her brief samadhi was bound to create ripples.

On Thursday, when the firebrand leader walked into the Assembly for the Budget Session, the call attention that was on was all but forgotten. BJP leaders trooped out to touch her feet and seek blessings.

This infuriated the Opposition who called the act as unconstitutional since the proceedings were on. When Bharati sought permission from the speaker to bar the legislators from touching her feet, there was a melee. A debate broke out between the treasury and Opposition benches.

Senior Cabinet minister Gauri Shankar Shejwar defended the legislators’ move and as if to snub the Opposition, walked upto the former CM and touched her feet again. Others followed suit.

Sensing trouble, Deputy Speaker Hazarilal Raghuvanshi adjourned proceedings. The sanyasin later left for her residence without attending the post lunch session.

With senior Cabinet minister Gauri Shankar Shejwar, No 2 in the Gaur ministry, personally escorting Bharati to the entrance and large chunk of legislators following the suit, the signs were loud for everyone. CM Babulal Gaur left the house minutes before Bharati walked in.
