NASHIK, FEB 17: The Hindu Ekata Andolan activists of Nashik unit burnt effigies of members of the History Research Committee here yesterday, after staging a rasta roko agitation at Central Bus Stand in protest against the Maharashtra Government’s decision to celebrate the Shivaji Jayanti on February 19, instead of May 5.

Ramsingh Bavri, State vice president of Hindu Ekata Andolan, led the rasta roko agitation and staged dharna at Central Bus Stop. Later, the agitators burnt effigies of members of the History Research Committee, in whose chronology the birth date of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is February 19.

Later, the delegation submitted the memorandum to Resident Collector Omprakash Deshmukh.

Meanwhile, Nashik Shiv Sena unit has decided to celebrate this year’s Shivaji Jayanti on May 5, and from next year, they will celebrate it on February 19. It has also been decided that Shiv Sena units in the city will perform pooja on February 19 and take out a procession on March 5.
