Kishanganj: Many icons of Indian cricket could fall from the pedestal oncethe CBI wraps up its probe into match-fixing and betting in the game, UnionMinister of State for Sports Shahnawaz Hussain indicated on Saturday.
Besides the 8220;super stars of the game8221;, the CBI report is also likely topoint an accusing finger at some other bigwigs associated with the game, hetold reporters here, without divulging any names.
He said the government would try for 8220;exemplary punishment8221; to those heldguilty by the agency. On BCCI8217;s decision to drop Mohammed Azharuddin, AjayJadeja and Nikhil Chopra from the list of probables for next month8217;s ICCknock-out tournament in Nairobi, the Minister said there shouldn8217;t beseparate yardstics for the players and the officials. Kapil Dev too shouldnot coach the team till cleared of the charges, he opined. Hussain said hisgovernment never wanted to interfere in the game, but everyone associatedwith Indian cricket were answerable to the people, particularly after themurky episode of match-fixing and betting brought a bad name to the country.
