PANAJI, OCT 23: Hectic political activity was on in Goa today with parties gearing up for tomorrow’s trust vote, sought by Chief Minister Francisco Sardinha for his 11-month-old coalition government.

The political crisis deepened yesterday after the BJP, the key ruling coalition partner, met Governor Mohd Fazal and communicated its withdrawal of support to the Sardinha government and staked a claim to form an alternative government.

Sardinha, who claimed before reporters that his government was in majority and would prove it on the floor of the House, also met the Governor.

Meanwhile, a meeting of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has been convened this evening to discuss the emerging situation, a party source said.

"The party got some feelers," the sources said, but stopped short of divulging details when asked whether they were approached from any quarter for enlisting support of the Congress, whose strength in the state Legislative Assembly has been reduced to six as a result of splits.

The BJP legislature party leader Manohar Parrikar said he has submitted a list of 21 MLAs in the 40-member House to the Governor yesterday and staked claim to form a government.

The Union Minister for Information Technology, Pramod Mahajan is arriving in Goa tomorrow to guide his party under the present circumstances, Parrikar said today.
