Hearing on the bail plea of Kanchi Acharya Jayendra Saraswati, an accused in the Radhakrishnan assault case, was adjourned till tomorrow after the Madras High Court was informed by the court registry about possibility of further earthquake and tsunamis hitting the coast.

The abrupt adjournment at about 3 pm came as senior Supreme Court advocate K.T.S. Tulsi was arguing against grant of bail to the Acharya.Justice R. Balasubramanian informed Tulsi and others, including mediapersons, that according to the Meteorological Department there was a possibility of recurrence of earthquake and tidal waves and the registry had decided to close the court for the day.

When the judge first informed the advocates of the closure for the day, Tulsi, who had begun his arguments at 2.20 pm after lunch break, said he was prepared to take the risk and continue. A short time later, an assistant registrar came to the court after which the judge adjourned proceedings.

Meanwhile in Kancheepuram, building contractor Ravi Subramaniam, the second accused in the Sankararaman murder case, was remanded to three days police custody by a court here. Seeking his custody, prosecution told the First Class Judicial Magistrate G. Uthamaraj that Subramaniam was arrested at Guruvayor in Thrissur district of Kerala yesterday. Subramaniam has been charged with arranging for the killers of Sankararaman.

Appu alias Krishnasamy, another accused in the Sankararaman murder case, was remanded to judicial custody till January 3.
