
A Head-on collision between a truck and a transport vehicle in Shehra taluka in Panchmahals district of central Gujarat killed at least 13 people on the spot, on Friday. The deceased include three women.
Sub-Inspector B V Bharwad of the Shehra police station said the accident occurred around 7.15 am when the transport vehicle GJ17- W 249 turned from a dhaba near Tadva village towards Godhra on the state highway.
8220;The truck was travelling at a high speed despite fog,8221; he said.
He added that Chandra Patel, the son of Surelia Police officer Dilip Patel, who was driving the vehicle, was killed on the spot.
Sources in Shehra also confirmed that the vehicle belonged to a police officer of the area.
Eyewitnesses said there were 15 people on board the vehicle at the time of the accident and the bodies were strewn across the road. 8220;Most of the victims received head injuries. The impact was severe,8221; said Godhra Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr L M Chandana.
The deceased are Ratilal Patel 57, Rekha Damor 20, Chandrasinh Bhura Patel 40, Parvat Parmar 55, Leela Parmar 40, Bahadur Pateliya 25, Kamla Gulab Parmar 40, Rajesh Laxman Talsha 30, Ganpat Damor 35, Ajit Salam Pagi 25, Kalu Shiva Rathod 40, Mohan Raisinh Baria 35, and an unidentified person.
