Excise duty on sweets withdrawn Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha today announced wide-ranging concessions to the tune of Rs 263 crore in direct and indirect taxes, including withdrawal of the controversial eight per cent excise duty on sweets and namkeens, processed food items like branded ghee, spices, butter and cheese and spectacle lenses, says a report from New Delhi.
