
CHANDIGARH, Nov 29: Ninety-two-year-old Sant Hari Singh died yesterday after he won the brisk-walk race at the Carnival.
His daughter, Gurbaksh Kaur, reminisces: quot;I got the news of his death 30 minutes after I returned home after dropping him. I could not believe it. He was feeling cheerful when I dropped him at the Leisure Valley.quot; Eye witnesses recall that he waved after crossing the finishing line in the 85-95 years category and fell. He was taken to the hospital where he died. He had won the race last year as well.
His sons don8217;t repent that he went for the race. quot;Death is always a tragedy and it8217;s a big loss for us,quot; say his sons Major P.J. Singh retd and Ajit Singh, a businessman. quot;But we are proud of the fact that he partipated and won. He died a winner. He was so active at this age 8211; a guiding factor for the agedquot;.
Ajit Singh retired as executive engineer from Punjab Irrigation Department. His sons say he never neglected his health. quot;Jovial nature and disciplined diet were the secret of his health,quot; they say.
