The Bombay High Court today ordered a stay on the appointments of lecturers in six government-run engineering colleges in the state after irregularities in appointments recommended by Maharashtra Public Service Commission were alleged in a petition filed here.A division bench comprising Chief Justice C.K. Thakker and Justice Ranjana Desai, in their interim order, restrained the government from appointing lecturers recommended by MPSC as per its select list from 1997 till date. The colleges are at Pune, Karad, Aurangabad, Amravati, Jalgaon and Chandrapur. The bench was hearing a petition filed by three ad-hoc lecturers — Vikas Patil, Vilas Patil and Girish Kadam — attached to engineering colleges in Pune and Karad. The trio have been unsuccessfully appearing at the exams conducted by the MPSC, but due to changing criteria for appointments, their selection has not come through.
