Twelve-twenty, not a second before and not a second after. Was that meantto tickle ears and illicit a sporadic outburst. Well, it appears as if theTalkies girl has it all wrong. There8217;s not a pinch of humour in that firststatement or in the conversation to follow but it8217;s all yupadidupa on theshow or so she claims. The lady juggling more pies than one can imagine.Arms and limbs entangled in a knot, she has schedules, shoots and deadlinesgnawing at her brain. With the pressure rising to unprecedented heights, theclock struck at the final hour 12:20 pm, the mobile phone switched on, andArchana Pooransingh proceeds to reveal all to her numerous fans andcritics.
So what makes her show any different from all the others?
Archana Talkies is a personality-based show which sets itself on higherground, higher than Movers and Shakers. It8217;s an unending cycle. It is anentertainment show based on the way I perceive people and vice versa. Thewhole process of the guest appearing on-stage for ten minutes is not aninterrogation. There is no element of one-upmanship as it8217;s a simpleconversation or a chat to be precise. The comfort levels that my guests feeltranslate into them having a great time on the show.
Why stick to comedy?
In fact I was sceptical when I started with Archana Talkies. But it had tobe of a particular genre and since humour is indispensable and makeseverything palatable, I decided to stick with the genre that I have beenidentified with.
Does her show have a soft-spot for wanna-be Bollywood stars?
Fifteen years in the film industry and I have learnt the game. I know theindustry8217;s follies and foibles and my guests know that. There are severallike me who are eager to make it big. After all, Jalwa came with a bang andthen disappeared into the backwaters.
Amidst the hustle-bustle of producing sitcoms and soaps, where does shefind the time and energy for film shoots as well?
I will be doing two films a year, and am working on films by Aditya Chopraand Deepak Fareen. Both have a comic shade but it satisfies my role as anactress. Archana Pooransingh Magikworks has sitcoms and soap operas tuckedaway under its sleeve. The quality and professionalism I have put in as anactress has been transferred to my co-workers.
The show has become a platform for artistes to voice their minds.
It8217;s a complete turnover, at first we were at the mercy of our guests. Theshow invites a class of actors, directors and producers who promoteforthcoming releases 8212; Satish Kaushik with his Hamara Dil Aapke PaasHai, with Guddu Dhanawa8217;s Bicchu and with Dharmesh Darshan8217;sDhadkan.
