The AICC asked the Central government to ‘enforce the principles of accountability’ in the wake of the latest expose on Gujarat riots of 2002 and demanded that the law of the land should be applied without fear or favour against any individual, institution or ideology spreading communal hatred and bigotry.
In an omnibus resolution that covered political, economic and international issues, the party strongly backed the nuclear agreement with the US, saying it would end India’s isolation in the international nuclear community and will enable it to access technology.
It also maintained that it had no doubts that the agreement protected India’s fundamental strategic interests in every way.
“The AICC reiterates Congress’s steadfast determination to combat communalism of all kinds. This has always been the priority of the Congress, but it acquires even greater importance and urgency now. The law of the land should be applied without fear or favour against any individual, institution or ideology spreading communal hatred and bigotry and inciting religious passions and prejudices,” said the draft omnibus resolution being discussed at the day-long AICC meeting.
