Guarded condemnation by BJP

The BJP on Thursday guardedly condemned the violence in Orissa, where Sangh outfits are suspected to be behind the widespread attacks on Christian institutions. The BJP deplored the violence in general, but refused to specifically criticise its sister outfit the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, which has been blamed for the attacks over the past two days. 8220;We always condemn violence. We condemn violence on both sides. We never support violence,8221; party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said when asked for the party8217;s reaction on the incidents. He said the Kui community had for some time been on a path of confrontation with the Church over conversions. 8220;The BJP-BJD Government will conduct an independent inquiry into the incident and peace will soon return to the troubled regions,8221; he added.
