On earlier occasions too, few doctors of the Punjab Civil Medical Services PCMS have been found to be involved in private practice.

Various senior doctors in the city feel that there are only a small percentage of such doctors, who in an attempt to make more money, are bringing a bad name to the profession.

The point has been highlighted earlier too, and recently, a doctor in the district, who is also posted at a dispensary, was also reportedly found to be involved in private practice.

Reacting to the issue of private practice by government doctors, PCMS Association President Dr Hardeep Singh said most of the PCMS doctors are doing their duty well but there may be some who are violating the rules of the department. The association has has nearly 2,200 members.

8220;This should not happen at any level and therefore I urge all the PCMS doctors to shun any such activity that brings bad name to the profession. Some doctors may have their own style of working but as far as the rules of the profession are concerned, they should be adhered to strictly,8221; he remarked.

Speaking about the issue, Dr Arun Mitra, district president, Indian Medical Association IMA, said the rules of the profession should always be respected and hence followed. 8220;Therefore, the authorities should take care of such people who go against the ethics of the profession,8221; he added.

However, defending Dr Mandeep Kaur, Mansura Block Samiti member Paramjit Kaur said Mandeep is a honest doctor and was only doing what had been accepted by various members of the Panchayat.
