HANOVER, February 21: Steffi Graf’s comeback faltered again today when she and Barbara Rittner were beaten in the quarter-finals of the doubles event at Hanover Grand Prix.

Graf and Rittner lost to top seeds Jana Novotna of the Czech Republic and Manon Bollegraf of the Netherlands 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. While Graf bowed out of tournament, top seed Jana Navotna of the Czech Republic entered semifinals with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Lisa Raymond.

Unseeded Russian Anna Kournikova beat Anke Huber of Germany, seeded four, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Rios enters semi-final

MEMPHIS: Marcelo Rios, the top seed at the Kroger St Jude tennis tournament, moved into the semifinals of the $700,000 ATP tour event with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over unseeded Grant Stafford of South Africa.

Kucera ends Korda’s run

ANTWERP: Karol Kucera upset top-seed Petr Korda in the quarterfinals of the $1 million European Community Championship. Korda fell 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to Kucera, who had the surprise win over Sampras in theAustralian Open.
