MANSA, Aug 17: While the funds for the construction of Shahpur Kundi reservoir and canal to dispose of water into the Thein Dam are yet to be allocated by the state government, the government was backtracking on the promise of completing the Thein Dam project work soon and misguiding the public, said Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amarinder Singh while talking to the media persons here today.

Amarinder Singh was here to address the state-level public rally organised by the Congress. He said that Bathinda and Lehra Mohabbat thermal projects were facing difficulty in meeting the required power needs.

The PPCC chief said the Akalis had not fulfilled the pre-poll promises and lashed out at the ruling party for increasing bus fares, electricity tariff and octroi rates.

Criticising the policies of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in lavishing money on his parent block- Gidderbaha, Amarinder Singh alleged that about Rs 700 crore were being spent on this block alone.

Describing the controversial statements of Badal and SGPC chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra, Amarinder said that Badal was going all out to set up focal points, Tohra had stated that there were no funds for these, leaving the public confused.

Later addressing a public rally, he alleged that the Akalis always accused the Centre and Congress of not solving various issues like the distribution of rivers water, transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab among others, but they themselves had not solved these issues despite the fact that their alliance partner was heading the government at the Centre.

The PCCC chief alleged that the ruling Akali- BJP alliance had done nothing for the people. The government had stopped issuing yellow cards to the poor. The common man was being burdened with a load of taxes and rising prices while the rich landlords like Badal, were deriving benefit of concessions.
