Nakkeeran editor R.R. Gopal today claimed his 10-day interrogation by the CB-CID was aimed at implicating former CM M. Karunanidhi and actor Rajnikant in the Rajkumar abduction case.

Gopal told reporters here the police asked him questions on Karunanidhi and Rajnikant in connection with the Rajkumar episode.

He had appeared before the CB-CID at Gobichettipalayam from June 20-29, in keeping with a Madras High Court order. The police, Gopal said, asked him for Karunanidhi’s cellphone number on which he had talked to the former CM during Rajkumar’s rescue.

The police were also curious about Rajnikant’s ‘‘role’’ in the abduction, Gopal said. ‘‘I told the police that Rajnikant’s intervention was a friendly gesture and in good faith to reduce the mounting tension between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.’’
