Two days after ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa reiterated that his outfit would not scale down from their demand of sovereignty, Assam CM Tarun Gogoi today dared the rebels to come out in the open and try their luck in the elections.

‘‘I appeal to the ULFA, as well as the NDFB, to shun violence and enter the democratic process of elections and try their luck. If they are really interested in the welfare of Assam, they should come and capture power through democratic means,’’ Gogoi said.

He was speaking at a rally organised by the Congress to launch their poll campaign in the state. Gogoi and AICC leader Digvijay Singh also launched a scathing attack on AGP and BJP: ‘‘The people of Assam found AGP to be the most corrupt party. About communal BJP, the less said the better.’’
