PARIS, June 12: Scotland’s Jim Leighton is not the only goalkeeper in France ’98 who can barely see beyond his six-yard line without a little help. Kasey Keller also sports bottle-top glasses when he is not mending the nets for the US or Leicester City.

“I’m sure there are quite a few players who are just as short-sighted as me but are just too vain to wear their glasses,” said Keller, who discovered contact lenses at the age of 11 after a tip from another member of his baseball side. He is minus 5.25 in one eye, minus 4.75 in the other.

Sex does help players desperately seeking their best World Cup form, according to a study of cardiologists in the Netherlands.

A so far inconclusive debate on the pros and cons of sex during the tournament has raged from long before the big kickoff but the Dutch study was adamant – six weeks of abstinence isn’t good for you.
