Fulham clinched promotion to first division yesterday prompting suggestions that former Newcastle boss Keegan might be prepared to change his mind and take on the national team role next season.

Keegan took over the England job from the sacked Glenn Hoddle in February but said he would only be in charge for four matches, ending after a European Championship qualifier against Bulgaria in June. He made it clear he wanted to honour his Fulham contract which ends in June 2000.
