Krajicek moves into 2nd round

ROSMALEN: Fourth-seeded Richard Krajicek of the Netherlands overcame intermittent rain and beat Australian Richard Fromberg 7-6 (7-0), 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) in the Heineken Trophy grass court tournament yesterday.

Also winning first-round matches were John van Lottum, who upset No 5 seed Nicolas Kiefer of Germany 7-5, 6-4, and Czech Martin Damm, who downed American Vincent Spadeau 6-4, 7-5.

No 4 seed Sabine Appelmans of Belgium defeated Spain’s Cristina Torrens Valero 6-2, 6-1, and American Tara Snyder finished a 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Czech Sandra Kleinova.

Australian tour

SYDNEY: Australia will play four Tests and seven limited-overs internationals on their tour of the West Indies in 1999, the Australian Cricket Board announced today. The Australians will play two warm-up games before the first Test in Trinidad from March 5-9. The second Test will be played in Jamaica followed by the third in Barbados and the fourth in Antigua.

The Test series will befollowed by seven one-day internationals, finishing in Barbados on April 25.
